15th August 2015 Radio Message by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako

Moses and David are among the greatest men in the Bible. Each was called for a specific task to accomplish. God’s Grace, power and authority was manifest in each of them and was fully recognizable by other people around them.

David: People around David testified that God was with Him, besides God Himself testify that David was” a man after His Heart”.

1Samuel 16:18 “Then one of the young men said, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is a skillful musician, a mighty man of valor, a warrior, one prudent in speech, and a handsome man; and the LORD is with him.”

Moses: God testified that His servant Moses and He had a special relationship, and the man Moses was the most humble on earth.

Numbers 12:6-8 , “He said, “Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, shall make Myself known to him in a vision. I shall speak with him in a dream.“

These two can be taken as examples of men of God who fell short of God’s standard at one point in their lives. These can be representative of believers today who may at one point fail God due to human weakness. It is very important to know what compelled them to fail and what the reaction of God was. God does not change; He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

What are the chief factors that led to the failure of these people?

Careful analysis of these failures is a starting point in understanding human weakness and the appropriate response.

Grace and Sin – Part 2

Messages by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako Posted on August 9, 2015 by Isaac Peter OkayoAugust 16, 2015

8th August 2015 Radio Message by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako

The issue of God’s Grace and sin in a believer (a saint) is a point of confusion to many people in the church today. It has caused unnecessary division and misunderstanding among brethren in the body of Christ. Many people are in a dilemma. Because of this, I have dedicated four weeks of teaching in a series on Radio program about Grace and Sin. Today is the second in the series. As usual my basis of teaching is on Scripture.

Last Saturday I tackled the genesis of both Sin and Grace. I said that Sin begun in the Garden of Eden when the first couple went against the instruction given to them by God. As a result of disobedience, man died and was separated from God as follows:
(i) Losing his relationship and fellowship with God-He was thrown out from the Garden of Eden
(ii) Losing his dominion – Position of rulership slipped over to the devil
(iii) Losing righteousness – He became naturally prone to evil, nakedness and shame.

To sum these up, though man still lived physically and propagated, He was spiritually dead and separate from God. This implied that the destination of man was the same as the destination of the rebellious Angels (Satan and demons); that is the lake of fire.

For man to be restored to God’s intended purpose for man, reconciliation was the prerequisite. The reconciliation must take place without undermining any of God’s “Character” and Man’s nature as an “image” of God.

God’s Character:
(i) Merciful and Compassionate; God tenderhearted Father
(ii) God of Justice – accurate judgment
(iii) Holy and flawless God

Man in the image of God:
(i) Man has a will-power for choice
(ii) Man has intellect – mind power to assess and articulate issues
(iii) Emotions- feelings

God’s Grace: The Reconciliation process was initiated by God through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. He came to pay for human Sin and Satisfy God’s Justice.

Grace and Sin – Part 1

Messages by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako Posted on August 1, 2015 by Isaac Peter OkayoAugust 2, 2015

31st July 2015 Radio Message by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako

The points of Grace and Sin have become a contentious issue in the church of recently: The younger people and their preachers are emphasizing the Grace of God and have been understood by some of the listeners as promoting moral laxity and is used by youth as license to indulge in sinful acts. The older preachers, however, tend to see a big danger in this, and have out rightly condemned it to be a false teaching.

The new preachers who believe they have received a new revelation about Grace tend to minimize the older preachers as perpetrators of legalism, bondage and therefore in an error.

This ought not to be if Scripture is clearly understood, balanced and taken in context. It is therefore my intention in this series to harmonize the teaching on Grace and Sin. There is no need for disagreement.

The Genesis of Grace and Sin

The fall of man is probably the saddest story in the entire Bible. It clearly gives us the genesis of sin within God’s Grace. Sin is described as “missing a mark” or “falling short” of a required standard”. Grace is “Unmerited favor”. God had created mankind and exalted him by Grace. Man did not work hard, so as, to be created in the image of God, nor did he merit being superior to all other creation – it was simply by the Grace of God.

Up to the point of sin, man was perfect in nature and there was no need for the law. Man had his total freedom, to will and to make a choice. That freedom of choice is one of the attributes he shares with God up to this day. He was clothed in a garment of righteousness, and in constant fellowship with God in the Garden of Eden. Man was the head of the universe with full dominion over every thing God created on earth.

However, in that Grace God gave man very clear instruction, not the law. The instruction was not to eat of a specific tree in the Garden of Eden. The consequences were clearly spelled out to Adam in case he misused his freedom and undermined God’s Grace. It is much the same with the saints. God holds accountable any one under Grace who commits irresponsible acts of Sin and does not repent of it.

In the early church the Apostle Paul’s anticipated that some people would think that because there is Grace, they are at liberty to go against God’s instructions Romans 6:1-2; 11-14. What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?

Sin is a reality that a believer must not ignore, and must deal with. To think that when we receive Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior, sin is no longer a factor is not right.

Another illustration of God’s Grace versus sin was that of Israel as a special nation. It was by God’s Grace that Abraham was chosen to become a special nation. God promised in a covenant to give them the land forever.

Discipleship

Messages by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako Posted on July 26, 2015 by Isaac Peter OkayoJuly 26, 2015

25th July 2015 Radio Message by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako

INTRODUCTION: After every four Saturdays, the fifth is an “interaction” one which allows listeners to call directly to the Radio station and:
(i) Ask questions on the previous teachings,
(ii) Make suggestions and give direction on topics to be tackled next,
(iii) Give comments on the quality of message, interpretation, studio output, etc.,
(iv) Or any other things that they deem necessary.

I very much need this feed back from my listeners and sponsors to help me evaluate the cost-effectiveness of this program in terms of resources, my effort and time. I always want serve people to the best of my ability, and that can only be possible when time is given for interactions.

The Interaction Saturday is divided into two main parts. The first 10 to 15 minutes will be a short teaching sermon on any topic, just to open the discussions, and thereafter open to the callers to call directly to the studio. I will then make responses appropriately.

PART 1. BRIEF SHARING ABOUT DISCIPLESHIP

TEXT: Mathew 28:18-20. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

THEME: Discipleship

Jesus, just before He ascended, gave instructions to His disciples to make disciples of all nations. He did not send them to win converts of all nations. There is a big difference between “a convert” and “a disciple”:

Evangelists are doing a commendable job; many souls are coming to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ daily, and churches are bursting out in numbers, especially Pentecostal churches in the Sub-Saharan region. Many people are desperate and are hungry for God. They have been given raw deals by the so-called cultural gods. People need genuine love from the true God.

Unfortunately, when these people come to church they do not find the opportunity to grow through a systematic discipleship program. These people are left to gamble their salvation on their own. As years pass by, it is unfortunately assumed they are mature enough to ascend to positions of responsibility and leadership in the churches. A majority of believers mistake paper qualification (degrees, diplomas and PhDs) to be a sign of attaining discipleship.

The Perfect Will of God – Part 2

Messages by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako Posted on July 19, 2015 by Isaac Peter OkayoJuly 19, 2015

18th July 2015 Radio Message by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako

ROMANS 12:1-2 “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Having considered extensively both, “the Permissive Will of God” and the “Perfect Will of God”, we are set to explore how to get into God’s perfect will and to prove that we are in the Perfect Will of God for everything we do. The Perfect Will of God has all the three indicators of “goodness,” “acceptability” and “perfection” as mentioned last Saturday.

Walking into the perfect will of God in all things begins from the point of voluntary sacrifice. There is no short-cut. To sacrifice simply means to put something to death in order to save the other. Jesus Christ had to die on the cross so that you may have a relationship with God now, and in future, eternal life. Similarly, our God-given free will must die first if God’s Perfect Will for us is to thrive. 2 Corinthians 5:15 “… and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.”

God will not forcefully kill your free will. It is up to you to walk with it to the altar, slaughter it and leave it there. That makes a difference between a religious person and the one having a living relationship with Christ Jesus. It is not the amount of prayer, fasting, and good works that defines a saint destined for eternal glory, but a life placed on the Altar of God. Religion is an expert in prayer, fasting and good works and is meaningless before God unless it is accompanying sacrificed life.

A clear picture of what I mean took place in the garden of Gethsemane below the Mount of Olives, east of the giant Temple.

The Perfect Will of God

Messages by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako Posted on July 12, 2015 by Isaac Peter OkayoJuly 12, 2015

11th July 2015 Radio Message by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako

I SAMUEL 8:1-8, 19-22 And it came about when Samuel was old that he appointed his sons judges over Israel. Now the name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah; they were judging in Beersheba. His sons, however, did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after dishonest gain and took bribes and perverted justice. Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah; and they said to him, “Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king for us to judge us like all the nations.

But the thing was displeasing in the sight of Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the LORD.

The LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them. “Like all the deeds which they have done since the day that I brought them up from Egypt even to this day – in that they have forsaken Me and served other gods -so they are doing to you also.

“Now then, listen to their voice; however, you shall solemnly warn them and tell them of the procedure of the king who will reign over them.” – Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, “No, but there shall be a king over us, that we also may be like all the nations, that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.“

Now after Samuel had heard all the words of the people, he repeated them in the LORD’S hearing. The LORD said to Samuel, Listen to their voice and appoint them a king.” So Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Go every man to his city.“

INTRODUCTION: After settling in the land, Israel deviated from God’s instruction and went after other gods. That happened immediately after the passing on of the generation of Joshua. God gave them up to be tortured by the remnants of other nations. Each time thy felt the pressure of oppression, they cried to God and reminded Him of His covenant with them, a judge was provided to deliver them. But shortly after deliverance, they forgot and did the same abominable things.

God allowed this sequence for about 350 years before raising Samuel. Samuel was an icon of honesty and faithfulness to God. However, at Samuel’s old age, his own children were not walking in his footsteps. The Bible says they were corrupt, and went after material gains. Israel as a nation did not see any future beyond Samuel.

The elders of the people sat down and formulated the solution instead of asking God for the way forward. They came up with a solution of their own as asked God to Rubber stamp it. They wanted a king like other nations. They assumed that with a king like other nations, they would be secure. Their demands had overtones of comparison and mistrust of God and Samuel. The mischief of Samuel’s children was just a scapegoat, but the real thing was to challenge theocracy.

God permitted it, but you could feel the tone, “Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them.” Every time I come to this point, my heart breaks. Israel was leading God instead of the other way round.

Our Identity and Security is in Christ

Messages by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako Posted on July 11, 2015 by Isaac Peter OkayoJuly 12, 2015

4th July 2015 Radio Message by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako

TEXT: Ezra 4:1-3 Now when the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the people of the exile were building a temple to the LORD God of Israel, they approached Zerubbabel and the heads of fathers’ households, and said to them, “Let us build with you, for we, like you, seek your God; and we have been sacrificing to Him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here.“

But Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the heads of fathers’ households of Israel said to them, “You have nothing in common with us in building a house to our God; but we ourselves will together build to the LORD God of Israel, as King Cyrus, the king of Persia has commanded us.“

INTRODUCTION: To be able to understand and interpret the text above, there is a need to understand the summary of the history of Israel from Abraham, the founder-father of the nation of Israel, to the time of Zerubbabel.

Israel was and is still a special people through whom God passed the blessing of redemption of man kind. They are specially chosen, and their choice by God is irrevocable: The church cannot completely replace Israel. The time is coming when Israel will be grafted back.

The descendants from Abraham became a nation in Egypt were they were oppressed but God delivered them and led them out to the Promised Land. God’s promises to Israel included:

   (i) Giving them Land Genesis 18:21 ; 17:8
   (ii) Make them a nation Genesis 12:2 ; 17:4
(iii) Divine protection and blessings Genesis 12:3 and
   (iv) A seed referring to Christ Genesis 17:2-7 ; Galatians 3: 8,16

God deposed seven great nations and gave their land to Israel Deuteronomy 7; 1-5, but warned them that He will not spare them either if they went after the abominable practices of those nations Deuteronomy 4; 23-29

Israel entered the Land under God’s miraculous support; the Red sea splitting open, provision of manna, drying of river Jordan, collapse of Jericho walls etc. It is believed that Joshua marched into the Promised Land in year 1445.

Unfortunately Israel forgot the instruction from their God, and went after massive idolatry. God raised several prophets to warm His people but all in vain. In year 722 BC God removed the ten tribes of Israel and scattered them throughout the Assyrian Empire 2Kings 17:7-18; Jeremiah 2:7-25. The ten tribes were in the Promised Land for only 723 years.

The two tribes (Benjamin and Judah) constitute what is known as today’s Israel. 136 years after the deportation of the 10 tribes, God used Nebuchadnezzar captured Jerusalem, destroyed the city and the temple in 587. Many people were taken into exile.

The Christian’s Correct Attitude to Money

Messages by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako Posted on June 28, 2015 by Isaac Peter OkayoJune 28, 2015

27th June 2015 Radio Message by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako

[Text of Radio – Discipleship Program – 92.1 FM OPMRadio Jinja, Uganda]

A.TEXT: 1 Timothy 6:3-11 If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves grief. But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

INTRODUCTION: The above is an extract from apostle Paul’s letter to his spiritual son Timothy who was overseeing pastoral work in the city of Ephesus. Paul wrote out of concern to instruct and caution the young church leader on the eminent danger the church was facing in a big city of about 200,000 residences. He himself was in Macedonia at the time he wrote to Timothy.

The Church in Ephesus was begun by Priscilla and Aquila, a devout and a gifted Christian couple. Paul joined them in Ephesus during his second missionary journey. Paul pastored the church in Ephesus city for three years before moving to another region.

Ephesus was a big city and was the provincial headquarters of the Roman administration in Asia Minor. It ranked with Alexandria in Egypt, and Antioch in Greece. The City of Ephesus was known for its famous Temple of Artemis or Diana, one of the seven wonders of the world by then. Paul wrote to instruct and caution Timothy to deal with four major problems the church in the community of Ephesus was facing:

(i) To counter false teachings some of the influential church elders had introduced. The key among the elders were Hymenaeus and Alexander who were attempting to divert the attention of Christians from the main doctrines to endless myths and genealogies. Paul disciplined them by putting them outside the church (1 Timothy 1:3.20) As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines. Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan, so that they will be taught not to blaspheme.

(ii) To put in order, the worship in churches, conduct, dressing of women particularly and generally family and other relationships in the church

(iii) To address the challenge of inadequate qualified church staff and their qualification and

(iv) Correct money related attitudes among believers and church leaders.

THEME: The Christian’s Correct Attitude to Money

Money and material things are necessities for livelihood and comfort of mankind, including Christians, on earth. Money is a means of exchange for material goods and services, therefore an inevitable commodity in life. Money, per se, is not an evil thing but the position it occupies in man’s life determines whether it is an idol or not. Money is meant to serve man by facilitating him and not to be worshiped and served him.

Apostle Paul’s advice to young and a bit timid Timothy is not only relevant here in Uganda, but long over due. A week hardly passes without money and sex-related scandal involving a pastor, a prophet, a bishop etc in the press. The title, ‘a Pentecostal preacher’ no longer sells, but is synonymous with scandals. For example, the newspaper (Sunday Red Pepper) of Last Sunday, on pages 14 and 15 carried nasty stories about pastors involving naked women, and drinking detergents and grass in the name of anointing.

From the advice of apostle Paul to pastor Timothy, contained in our text above, we can derive three applications a church of today needs to correctly adjust the attitudes about money and material possessions. I would like to split the text above into three main components:

TEXT: Mathew 20:20-24 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Jesus with her sons, bowing down and making a request of Him.

And He said to her, “What do you wish?” She said to Him, “Command that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine may sit one on Your right and one on Your left.”

But Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” They said to Him, “We are able.”

He said to them, “My cup you shall drink; but to sit on My right and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.”

And hearing this, the ten became indignant with the two brothers.

The implication of some of our prayers

INTRODUCTION: At that time every one in Israel was expecting a ruler like King David who would deliver Israel from the foreign dominion. At that time Israel was no longer a sovereign nation, but under the Roman rule. The experts in the Law and interpretation of prophecies knew that a messiah would come to establish a theocratic leadership; far superior to any other kingdom on earth.

However, the intervening church era before Jesus Christ sets His Government was still a mystery. Yes, Jesus will come to establish a millennium rule on earth, but the details were not yet revealed.

Just like any worldly system where the leader lords it over the subjects, it was so in the minds of Zebedee and his family. Leadership in the worldly system is a position of privileges, honor and benefits. This concept is diametrically opposite according to the heavenly Kingdom in which leadership is a position of service and suffering.

Each of the twelve disciples was concerned about their future in the immediate coming Kingdom. The wife of Zebedee and her two sons carried it a bit too far; they had a family discussion on this and resolved that the mother approach Jesus. It was not a joking matter. In the book of Mark, the Bible says it were the boys who spoke implying what their mother did was a family resolution. It was something burning in James and in John, and probably the entire family.

In their own conception, they had been recruited and were being trained for the new and powerful Kingdom in which the sick were healed, food in abundance, demons quaking and the dead raised to life. The family knew that their sons had fallen into things (Blessings). But there was this Peter, a fellow fisherman who seemed to be a threat. He was always first in everything. Peter was a threat; a man of action and gifted in warfare. He promised to give protection to the Lord and delivered the promise: When the threat surfaced, in a matter of seconds the ear of enemy was slashed down.
