Joy Gems

Planning Your Worshipful Singing

I Chronicles 15:16. "David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers to sing joyful songs, accompanied by musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals."

This is where David appoints his first worship committee, and tells them to get a choir and orchestra organized.

Would you like to see how this verse triggered a prayer dialog with the Lord, as to how to personalize this?

Lord, You know I'm not well-trained or gifted in music. However, if I look for a principle to apply to myself here, especially as it relates to joy, we are to sing joyful songs. Is that key to how we worship You then?

Maybe I don't have to be especially gifted just to worship You alone in song? You would count my sincerity and joy as more important than my skills, right?

So what if I start a list of joyful songs that I know, and try to sing more often? Particularly when I leave my prayer time here? My music efforts can be a sign that I've been with You!

Say, with this old hymnal I have here, I could even just read a song that I don't know, and dwell on the words as I leave...

Or, I could also use them as my worship in the first few minutes after I enter my Devotional time. - This could set a tone for a true attitude of worship and maybe help keep my mind on my prayers, as well as send me off into the day with a more joyful heart.

Let's try it!

What do you think? Could you work out a plan to use more godly, Christian music in your worship? Music has long been known to be the language of worship – at least to our One True God. (Other gods apparently don't encourage singing lovely songs as worship).
