Joy Gems

Joys in a Wedding Song

Psalm 45:7,15 "You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. . . . They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king."

David takes up a noble theme here. In this Psalm he describes in symbolic pictures the Lord Jesus as a bridegroom-king who is taking a beautiful wife, with whom He is enthralled. He is anointed with the oil of joy.

It is not hard to see a picture of the marriage feast of the Lamb of God in this Psalm too. The bride's virgin companions are brought into the wedding feast to share in the great joy and gladness.

Have you ever stopped think about the great joy and anticipation Jesus has for that time when He will escort His Bride, the Church here on earth to Heaven to live with Him forever? He probably looks forward to that far more than we do. We are so caught up with the secular details of our life here, and our need to support ourselves that we rarely sit still long enough to think about things like this.

God the Father is the only one who knows exactly when this will happen, but Jesus is flexing His majestic muscles in eagerness for it to come to pass. Now if only we would catch a glimpse of His joy and share it on a spiritual level right now. It would transform all that we do and the attitude with which we do it. Like lovers who can't get off the phone when they are talking with each other, we would spend every moment we can snatch to be in prayer and fellowship with Him!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, the signs of the times all point to Your imminent return for Your Church. It could happen any day now. I want to start preparing my heart and mind to be so in-tune with You that I will be instantly ready to drop everything and leap up to meet You in the air. Finally, we shall be face to face!

Oh Father-God, say the word - soon! It will be worth it all!
