Joy Gems

A Blessing Pattern

Psalm 20:5 "We will shout for joy when you are victorious, and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests."

This must be shouting for joy when someone else succeeds. In fact, this whole Psalm, but especially the first five verses, are a blessing to give to someone else. (I have sometimes put it on my own homemade greeting cards.)

If you want to encourage and bless someone with all God's best, the four statements starting, “May he...” (that is, God), offer these very appropriate blessings to share; that God will answer you, protect you, send help, grant you support, accept your offerings, give you the desires of your heart, and make your plans succeed.

On top of all that, it is great to add that when all blessings are happening, I and our friends will be shouting for joy at your successes and will lift up banners of praise to God. Naturally, we imply that it is all from our great Lord God, and that He is the one who answers all our requests. We want the friend whom we are blessing to also have his or her requests granted.

One of the best things we can do for a friend is to rejoice when good things happen to them, and they see prayers answered. To promise ahead of time that we will shout for joy on their behalf is a great morale booster. It can increase their faith as well, to believe God for these good things.

Wouldn't you like all your friends to bless you so thoroughly?

PRAYER: LORD, I would love a bunch of friends like this! I'm grateful that I have a few who do pray blessings down on me, and rejoice when You come through with extra blessed helps.

Now I see a need for me to be such an encourager too. Help me from this day forward to watch for ways to bless and rejoice over the good You do in the lives of my friends. Thank You for this blessing pattern in Psalm 20. Remind me to use it often.
