Let Them Ever Sing for Joy

Psalm 5:11-12 "But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield."

This is another Prayer-Psalm of David's. He begins it pleading for deliverance from his enemies, and ends it remembering who God is and that everyone who trusts in Him can be glad and sing for joy. David is convinced that the Lord blesses the righteous and surrounds them with His favor as if covering them with His shield. There is his answer!

Do you have times when you feel defeated and like a victim surrounded by enemies? Can you identify with David's prayer?

I know that I know the answer given here. Still, I have days when I feel downtrodden and beset by troubles. In the end it boils down to forgetting how great and loving our God is. When I return to Him in reverence and repentance, and when I recall some of the wonderful things God has already done for me, then faith comes rushing back.

With that faith comes the joyful songs of praise to our great and powerful and loving God. He is well able, and He will protect us from the enemy. We can safely count on Him and sing!

Especially if we have been made righteous through faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross, for the Lord God is certain to bless the righteous in His Son.

PRAYER: Oh Lord, I'm ashamed to admit it, but sometimes I need to be brought back to taking refuge in You, and letting my joyful confidence in You burst out. You do bless and surround and protect me! There is no reason to stop singing for joy; I can keep on doing it forever. You always protect and guide me, and You always show me what to do. Hallelujah! What a wonderful and perfect God You are! Help me not to forget again.
