The group attending this Girls' Seminar

Sponsored Girls' Seminar -
December 27 - 30th, 2012

(Report of Last Event of 2012 - at YWAM Facilities in Jinja)

We have a commitment with a high sense of stewardship before the Lord God to bring up God fearing professionals, wives and mothers from among the least privileged young women in Uganda. The group, with exception of our biological daughter Liz, consists of girls who have gone through great difficulties and challenges, but are determined to have success by clinging to the Lord Jesus Christ. They have found hope and opportunity to study, courtesy of Revival Time Ministry Girl-Child Sponsorship Scheme.

Some of the stories from the girls are really moving: Some have grown up as street kids surviving off garbage bins; often arrested and detained by police. Some were the victims of the notorious LRA Joseph Kony campaign; others have been thrown out of their Muslim families because of their love and passion for Jesus Christ. Others have lost both parents to HIV/AIDS scourge or the conflicts in Uganda. Each girl has a moving story to tell (apart from our daughter Liz).

In 2012 RTM has been able to assist 21 girls through international connections. Some of the girls are in permanent sponsorship while others got one-off support this year leaving plenty of room for faith. These girls are attending various universities and secondary schools.

In order to achieve the goal of well-grounded ladies, we believe that an annual conference is vital to:
(i) Disciple and counsel the girls in the ways of the Lord Jesus
(ii) To give them the opportunities to know each other and have fellowship as a family
(iii) To show love and tender parental care, which they had missed
(iv) To give them exposure to godly principles and inculcate important values in them.

Facilitators

We had the privileged to have two senior people; the representations of the Boards speak to the girls.

(i) Rev. Silas Ogwadulai, 67, Uganda Board representative for the Girl Child Program, gave wonderful advice on behavior of a Christian woman and response to challenges. He also awarded 7 girls with gifts for distinguished academic performances and Evangelism: Many girls had spent their free time witnessing and winning souls for Jesus.

(ii) Ruth Marlene Friesen, 64, a member of RTM international Board and based in Canada spoke to the girls via Skype. She gave her own testimony and answered their questions. It was the first time for all the girls to experience the Skype technology.

(iii) Christine Oyako, 45, A patron and a mother to the girls talked to the girls about relationships and Christian marriage. She talked about contentment and dangers of love of material things, pitfalls of fornication and sex related scandals.

(iv) Pastor Isaac 50, talked about a life controlled by the Word and the Holy Spirit. A life of trust in God and walking by faith.

Challenges for 2013

(i) Both, universities and secondary schools, are opening in January 2013, and there are 8 girls whose futures are not certain. They got just one-off (one-time gifts) support. Only 13 girls are in permanent sponsorship, the rest get money by faith. Please pray for them.

(ii) There are also another 8 in the waiting list with equally moving stories that need support. For example, two months ago, Taiba from a staunch Muslim family declared her faith in Jesus Christ. She narrowly survived death. She is in hiding with the help of RTM. She needs help to continue with University next year. Pray for Taiba.
