December 2011

The month of December has begun. In our tradition here in Uganda and most African cultures, it is a month of holiday; people working in urban areas unite with their relatives and friends in ancestral villages where they hold big feasts and make community and clan plans.

For many years now, the reverse is true for me. December is my busiest month. I usually have speaking engagements throughout. I have three seminars in December; two youth seminars, one in Soroti and the other in Kitgum and one general seminar in Kumi besides the activity of coming weekend.

From Friday the 2nd till Sunday, the 4th of December, my wife and I will be in Kampala city. We have a number of ministry activities to accomplish. We are mainly excited about speaking in a "couples get together" in Kiwatule Recreation Center in Kampala. About 58 middle class Christian couples are meeting to review family life, values and parenting. My wife and I are honored as the only facilitators in this discussion.

We were proposed by Michael and his wife Grace, members of the get together organizing team. Michael is a university Lecturer while his wife Grace is Deputy Principal in the Nurses training School in Mulago National Referral Hospital.

God used me in 1997 to save Michael's marriage with Grace. Although they were good Christians, failure to have children was making the marriage fall apart. I learnt of it through their closest friend, visited them and gave my counsel as a minister. I also dearly loved and consistently prayed with them, and now they have two boys.

January is usually my month of holidays and parenting. By mid-December, all our children will be back home for one and a half month holiday. It is a good time for me to speak into everyone's life. Usually we are very few during a school term because almost every one goes to school and lives in hostel. In Uganda good education is got from boarding schools mainly.

From next week, our house will be full, warm and noisy. Not just our biological children are expected, even some of the girls we are supporting come to us for holidays because our home is a place they can also call home. Irene Mukimba is already with us. We are expecting Esther plus three more, including our blood/natural daughter Liz. The number is expected to rise from just 3 of us to 12 or more.

A friend from Abarilela has given Sylvia and I one sheep (lamb) for Christmas. We are assured of Mutton for Christmas. I will pick it after the 20th December on my way from the youth conference.

Another good news is that small givers can now donate money to us via online bank account with AlertPay. (Please use our contact form to request my confidential email for transferring donations to me directly. This account is in my name: Isaac Peter Oyako, and it is now easy for me to download your gift to my Stanbic Bank account and access it through my ATM Visa Card).

Remember to pray for my girls as I buy items for Christmas. I have only one biological daughter and six others we are helping. Always they want Christmas clothes, shoes etc. I have four biological sons who usually are not bothered by Christmas shopping.

Thank you
Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako

October 2011

As I was rushing for a seminar in Mayuge district, some 52 Kms from my house, I saw probably the worst motor accident in my life time. It was at Kakira sugar cane plantation, about 6 minutes from our house. The two visiting American pastors were killed on the spot plus their host pastor in Kampala, the renowned Bishop Mugerwa. It was sad to begin the day with such news, but it is a common phenomenon in Ugandan roads.

Uganda is the second in the world for road carnage. Because of the absence of strict driving rules; any one can forge the driving permit and drive. There is also the witchcraft factor.

When I looked carefully at the ill-fated vehicle and the circumstances in which the men of God perished, it may have been driven by amateurish driver who had no idea about road signs or under the influence of some spirits. The accident was completely avoidable.

Isaac Oyako's 23 year old Suzuki

After turning off the main highway leading to Kenya-Uganda border, I had another 23 Kms of a very difficult road: It had rained the entire night and some sections of the road had developed deep galleys and water trenches. It was also quite slippery. By God's grace I made it in time, though the trip had inflicted severe injury on my 23 old suzuki vehicle. I could not use it immediately after because the gear box mounting, cross bearing and exhaust box were all damaged.

For the last 11 years, this vehicle has been helpful to me for ministry. It is now time to replace it with another stronger vehicle. It has turned out to be more costly to use it.

We believe God for Toyota Hillux Surf Diesel-powered. This is higher and also a strong vehicle and cheap to maintain. With the kind of ministry tasks I have anything with low suspension and less than 4 WD is a big joke.

Ordering a used one from Japan is about USD 6,000 minimum. That includes transportation and taxes. We have one big pledge of USD 3,000 from our old friend from USA. We have another pledge of GBP 20 from our family friend in UK and UGX 200,000 (USD 80) from Ugandan friends. We are short of USD 2,900 for a strong Hillux Surf. So pray with us.

We are open to small givers as well. We have collection centers where people can channel their support. In UK, Rev. Pete Game will collect money on our behalf. See His Contacts below.

AN APPEAL

Oblalanga flood scenes Sept 2011

Revival Time Ministry, led by Pastor Isaac Peter Oyako is seeking immediate funding to help the victim of floods in Obalanga Sub County in Amuria Sub County. The blessing of rain has turned out to be catastrophic.

Of late there has been heavy and consistent down pour in a low lying land of North Teso, most especially Obalanga Sub County, causing flooding. Ten thousand people are said to be in danger of displacement by water and food shortage: The crops that were in gardens have been destroyed while those collected at home have been washed away. Path ways and roads have turned to be Lakes or Rivers.

Obalanga flood - a man coming out of hut

The eminent danger is sanitation-related diseases such as dysentery, diarrhea and malaria.

RTM's immediate intervention plan is to evacuate the elderly people into relatively drier areas by providing tents. We also plan to give mosquito nets and blankets to children, the elderly and the pregnant women.

In year 2005, RTM helped to resettle 3,000 household 23,000 people in this same sub county using USD 50,000 donated by Global Refuge International USA.

Yesterday (September 21), we received assistance from FOCUS- USA of US$ 1,000. We are trying to figure out how best we can move in to kick-start the intervention with this donation. Our minimum projection is US$ 10,000 including administrative costs which is always kept below 5%. Pray that more resources come in as soon as possible.
